Mission Trip Day 5 – Update from Canada

Sunday, April 24 – Today we had a wonderful time as we spent the afternoon in Penticton Prayer Walking and making some final preparations for our Easter Egg Hunt. You can sense the excitement as we get closer to the event. I was thinking this morning as I was praying about all those scattered around North America have pitched in and have contributed to this one activity in Penticton BC. People have sent money and or eggs filled with candy from the following  states… California, Colorado, Kentucky, Washington, Ohio, Virginia, and Georgia. We thank God for all of you who have caught the vision for this event and have gone the extra mile to help out. I promise lots of pics and some testimony from the Team on their experiences.

Today the Team Prayer Walked six streets as well as around LocoLanding. I spoke to a young man who has been drifting from town to town and is looking for a place to “land”. Please join me in praying for him. We talked to a young father about the Easter Egg Hunt, please pray that he will show up with his two small children. He helped me pick out a proper kite for out basket give away…With some of your financial gifts and several donations from NLBC, FBC Washington, and Lifesong Christian Bookstore we were able to put together a basket valued at over 150.00.

Today we were busy so pics are slim. we did stop and take a pic at a lake overlook. The Team is gracious and pose on request and they are always smiling. We were treated to a beautiful day here today and we are praying for a sunny and dry day on Monday. Please join us in praying for the weather here to hold off until after the Easter Egg Hunt, which begins at 11am. There are over 170 families who have sent a RSVP. Should be a wild and wonderful time!

Blessing and Praise to our Lord…

Mission Team is Here!

The NLBC Mission Team arrived safe and sound to Kelowna Canada. They were certainly tired after their long flights but were glad top arrive and find out about this place we now call home. After a nice meal the Team was taken to their homes away from homes for a good nights rest. Wednesday the Team will have some Canadian orientation, lunch with the Potter’s House Community Church (PHCC) Ministry Team and then off to Penticton for the afternoon. There will will visit the Christian bookstore and meet Mel, the owner. We will pray over the city as well as where we will have the Easter Egg Hunt on Monday. In the evening we will meet some more of the PHCC family who will help assimilate the Team farther into the Canadian culture with the goal of helping to meet people when we are Prayer Walking later in the week. There will be many photo opportunities in the days ahead so we look forward to sharing those with everyone who may be joining us to have a virtual mission trip and prayer walking experience.

Blessings and Appreciation for God’s grace and your Prayers.

Pictures!

Here are three new pictures from our recent retreat. The teens had a winter retreat about an hour and half northwest of our house and we visited them on Saturday. About 50 kids came from three different churches. There is a picture here of the teens in worship. Also there was a beautiful frozen lake there – very winter wonderland.  Linda was brave enough to stand on it! They were driving their snow mobiles on the lake as you can see by the tracks. There was also someone on the far side riding their horse on the frozen lake as well. Sounds dangerous to me but what do I know? Had a great time with the teens on the winter retreat.

Pictures from Penticton

The pics I am sending you today were taken yesterday while Linda and I were prayer walking in Penticton. The pics with the view were taken at an overlook high above the city looking down towards the city. The lake is the Okanagan Lake, which is the north lake and the lake barely seen is Skaha Lake to the south. The city shots are the park (Gyro Park) and around the park which is where we hope the team from NLBC will help us with the Community Easter Egg Hunt. As far as Mel knows there has never been a community Easter Egg Hunt and his store has been there 26 years. The park is at the north end of Main Street not far from the Okanagan lake.  Prayer is needed for permission from the city to allow us to use the park for our event. We hope to ask permission next week.

This is one of the many ministries The Potter’s House Community Church is involved in here in West Kelowna. In this pic I am helping to collect $$ to be used to help the Salvation Army meet the needs of this community throughout the year. PHCC families have committed to be there every weeknight for two weeks beginning this week.

This is Lakeshore Drive. As you can see there are hotels and rental apartments lining the street. There are also lots of businesses that are seasonal. I spent some time here today taking pictures and asking for wisdom on ministry along here. there is a major hotel / casino right behind me and this is a very busy spot come the Summer and Fall. Would like some Teams to came and help with some concentrated Prayer walking in and around this park as well as some other parks around one of the lakes (the Okanagan Lake is connected to the southern Skaha Lake). I will get pics of the Skaha Lake park areas next week. It is the warmer of the two lakes but most of the commercial businesses are located around the Okanagan Lake for some reason.

This little sitting park is across the street from the bookstore on Main Street. it is located btw a night club and a warehouse.

This is the Christian bookstore I have mentioned in many of my previous posts.

This is the Beach area where I am hoping we can do some ministry with some Mission Teams in the future. This area fills up with people in the summer and is on the boardwalk where many people come and go. I prayer walked along here today.

Pics from my life

Canadian Coffee House (picture below):

This is in Penticton on Front Street which is right off Main Street. Looks like they are working on upgrading this area because these signs are all over this area and no where else. I did some Prayer Walking on this street last Friday (nov 26th). (Picture Below)

This is a street view of Front Street. Prayer Walked and Prayer Drove this Street last Friday (nov 26). (Picture Below)

I found this church on a side road in Penticton and was wondering what type of message this sends to the community. There are some churches in GA (Creekside) and TX (FBC Dallas) that have paid parking as well but it just felt strange to me for some reason especially the part about being towed away. (Picture Below)

This is the exact location where I have taken seasonal pics. I took Summer and Fall and with this one Winter…thought it was interesting. The snow in Penticton was almost non existent compared to what we had in West Kelowna. The ski area…Apex…in Penticton has a great base though so I guess the two lakes there in Penticton must keep it warm enough that this last snow was not an event. I will tell you that the wind is wicked there. The locals check to see which way the wind is blowing to determine which lake they go swimming in during the summer.

I will be in Penticton twice this week. One day (either Wed or Thurs) to Prayer Walk (PW) and visit with Mel at the bookstore and then Saturday for the community Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting. Hope to get some good pics but my camera is not good at night shots. Need to pray for a great deal on a Cannon SLR digital camera body so I can take better pics using my good zoom lens.  (Picture Below)

This is a pic from last week of the cabin that is at the top of the street from our suite. It was snowing and took on a real Thomas Kincaid feel to it.  (Picture Below)
